Travel Guide Seychelles
Geography
The Seychelles is one of the world’s most coveted archipelagos and a small, relatively unspoilt paradise off the coast of East Africa in the Indian Ocean. The Seychelles is one of those rare places which hasn’t suffered as a result of its popular tourist industry and is where white-sandy beaches provide the perfect setting to forget about all your worries and relax.
Capital and Important places
The city of Victoria on the island of Mahe displays remnants of its rich colonial past which can be seen by looking around the centuries-old post office and courthouse which still stand. Mahe has an exquisite collection of beaches which provide the opportunity to either relax or engage in a number of fun water sports such as snorkelling and diving.
Tourist Attractions
The island of Praslin is famed for its luxury resorts and is an ideal place for snorkelling if you don’t mind diving off smooth rocks into tropical, turquoise water. Vallée de Mai is a recognised UNESCO World Heritage site and is a well-known forest with a history dating back to prehistoric times. If you are a fan of nature reserves, head for Cousin Island and Silhouette Island and enjoy rewarding daytrips.
Accommodation
As it is reputed as a playground for the rich and famous, the Seychelles features some of the world’s best luxury accommodation, with select four-star accommodation exceeding US luxury hotels in price. On any of the islands you can stay at casinos or rent your own beachside hut. Most accommodation is situated near the main attractions.
Airport and transportations
The only way to reach Seychelles is by flying into Seychelles International Airport, with most tourists from around Africa and Europe using Air Seychelles by fly directly to this main international airport on Mahe Island. To travel from one island to the other, regular boats run throughout the day.
