Located in West Africa, Sierra Leone has suffered severely from civil war, violent coups, and post-colonial turmoil. Yet the country has the potential to be renowned due to its unspoilt rainforests and secluded beach areas. Due to a violent and chaotic civil war that ended eight years ago, Sierra Leone hasn’t ranked among anyone’s top 10 list of countries to visit. Sierra Leone’s economy and people still suffer from the devastating effect of war, but the authorities are working hard to revive tourism. The bright and sunny period between October and March is the most ideal time to visit Sierra Leone.

Sierra Leone’s capital city of Freetown is lively port town. Tourist highlights in Freetown include: Marcon’s Church, Fourah Bay College, City Hotel, and De Ruyter Stone. Freetown Peninsula offers a stunning view of Freetown. From the peak between the ocean and mountains you can see Sierra Leone. You shouldn’t forget taking photographs of Freetown’s architecture, Freetown Peninsula’s landscape and the Creole villages.

Freetown represents the country’s finest hotels with amenities such as air-conditioning and outdoor swimming pools. Freetown Peninsula boasts several luxury hotel establishments as well.
