Geography

Swaziland is one of the world’s last absolute monarchies and is a tiny landlocked country sandwiched by Mozambique and South Africa. The country features a variety of landscapes such as great mountains, deep rainforests, and several major rivers run through Swaziland including the Great Usuthu River. Swaziland is known for being a relaxing, safe country for travellers and a great place for experiencing nature at close range.

Tourist Attractions

In the Dlangeni Hills, Mbabane boasts good shops and some interesting sights such as the Allister Miller Street. To catch a glimpse of Swaziland’s King, visit the Royal Kraal at Lobamba, where an important ceremony and dance is held. The National Museum is also in the vicinity. Undoubtedly, Swaziland’s main attraction is its game reserves. The oldest and most visited park is the Mlilwane Reserve, and is a great place to observe animals such as zebras, giraffes, crocodiles, hippos and a wide variety of birds. There are many trails for exploring the park on foot or in a vehicle; alternatively visitors can travel by horseback or cycle. Mkhaya Game Reserve is the best place for spotting black rhinos, and is a popular hunting ground. In the rugged northwest, Malolotja Reserve encompasses 18,000 hectares of untouched wildlife, and is home to hundreds of different species of birds, including some rare species.

Airport and transportations

Swaziland’s Matsapha Airport provides daily connections to Johannesburg and weekly flights to Durban and Mozambique. It is also possible to cross the border by road, with minibuses running between Johannesburg and Mbabane taking five or six hours.
